In British and Celtic mythology, the forest represents the wild, untamed world—a liminal space between the human and the supernatural. It’s where:

Best known for Robin Hood, but long before that, Sherwood was sacred ground. It contains ancient oak trees believed to be over a thousand years old, and was said to be the home of forest spirits and green men—pagan deities of renewal and the wild.
The Major Oak is still visited by those seeking wisdom and protection.

Though technically a beech-lined road, this haunting natural tunnel has all the atmosphere of a haunted forest. Known for its role in Game of Thrones, it’s also believed to be haunted by the Grey Lady, a ghost who drifts silently between the trunks.
Some say she’s a spirit from a nearby abandoned graveyard. Others believe she’s something older.
🌲 5. The Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire
A hotspot for witchcraft, werewolves, and wandering spirits, this forest is wrapped in layers of legend. People speak of the ghost of a Roman soldier, spectral children, and even UFO sightings.
